Wichita makes splash, acquires All-Star

The Wichita Black Lightning made a splash this morning by agreeing to terms to acquire All-Star c Tom Harper from the Jacksonville Dolphins, right before the 2nd game in the teams series.

The Lightning will send sp prospect Bob Parrish and 1b prospect Nick Stahl to the Dolphins in exchange for Harper and minor league relief pitcher Bing Neagle.

"We are very happy to be able to have the opportunity to bring Harper on board," said GM zhawks at the press conference following the game,"he brings another good bat to our already outstanding line-up."

The move will push current c Khoury Riley into a backup roll, although zhawks mentioned that the two would platoon the position for a while to keep Harper fresh throughout the year, with Harper starting against lefties and Riley getting the nod against many righties.

The move will also push recently promoted defensive c Howard Hughes back to the minors to continue his development.

The Dolphins gets a good young pitcher to add to their already deep farm system. And slugging 1b Stahl. They were also happy to unload most of Harper's $5.9 million contract after starting off 3-16 this year, agreeing to pay $1.35 million of his remaining salary this year.
