It was a fantastic season 1, caped off by the improbable run of the Iowa City Black Lightning and coach uchuskies.
The team was lead by 2b Jolbert Seneca who batted .313 with 7HRs and 16 RBI and Melvin Xaio the speedy CF who batted .269 and stole 12 bases. The teams Ace Scot Meluskey won 4 games with a 3.13 ERA and 30 K's in 46 IP.
However the #6 seeded Lightning fell short of their goal of winning the World Series when they went up against the #1 team from the NL, the Texas Cow Pies.
The Cow Pies won the 6 game series and claimed the World Championship for coach timo1964.
The Cow Pies relied heavily on LF Ted Wilson, the eventual NL MVP who batted .333 with 7 HRs and 18 RBI and SS Mo Gonzales who hit for a .366 average and 15 RBI while scoring 11 runs.
The teams Ace pitcher, Tex Miller dominated the entire post season posting an undefeated 4-0 record with a 0.35 ERA. No one was more dominating then him.
Recapping the season there is one trade that most effected the outcome of the season and in all cases cost the Black Lightning a World Championship. The trade of SP (and eventual Cy Young Award Winner) Steve Cornelius to the Santa Fe Gallos Grandes before the season started. Steve (and Santa Fe) dominated the AL for most of the year, until falling short to the ICBL in the ALCS. In return for Cornelius the Lightning recieved Buddy Perez and Peaches Page. Both prospects with some upside. But neither will do what Cornelius could have done for the Lightning this past season.
